I use ebay a lot and generally enjoy buying and selling with them. I do however take issue with the limits they put on sellers postage costs - some of the price thresholds do not cover the delivery offered e.g. recorded delivery of an item at a certain size / weight and therefore mean that the additional p&p eats into the sale price of the item. I raised this issue with ebay directly sometime ago, only to be told to raise my starting price to compensate - no coincidence that means my listing fee goes up and the overall increased sale price means more money to ebay!
As a long time ebay member, I'm very disappointed with their customer service for sellers, everything is biased towards the buyer which leaves you stuck in a dispute and now I've been stung I'll never sell on ebay again!
eBay's policy protects buyers over sellers which is fine but when you consider the fact that the buyer is a scammer, non-payer, etc and the seller is a trusted PowerSeller then the whole policy becomes flawed.
I have a PowerSeller account and a personal account and both were 100% positive until one member decided to leave a negative score after asking me for more items for free! Unfortunately eBay will do nothing about this unless the buyer has actually stated that he is going to leave negative feedback if he doesn't get what he wants. So here is an easy way you can extort honest sellers 'till your heart's content.
The buyer in question actually had comments left on his feedback (from business sellers. 100% feedback sellers, etc) that were negative and warning other members about him. Unfortunately, if he buys from you on a BuyItNow listing then he can do what he likes to your feedback and there is not much you can do to stop this. His actual feedback score is 100% - because you are not allowed to leave a negative or even a neutral score.
I am unable to warn you of who this buyer is as I will be breaching policy.
Everytime I order with ebay, there is satisfaction of 90% with the purchase but somewhere somethings are lacking. Sellers are good, buyers are also fine. You just need to understand that some or the other way you will be loosing money either by selling the item or by buying it. It doesn't have competitive prices but you should search other companies and websites before buying from ebay. You will have better experience from several online stores.
I have recently decided to close my account and never use any ebay-related again. They have no sense of fairness when it comes to buyers being duped or tricked out of their money by cruel sellers. I was duped out of $200 dollars for a phone that was not as described, they decided not to refund my money probably because they didn't want to deal with having to pay me back first. I even offered to send pictures of the damaged phone and they refused to see it. How do you make a fair decision on a case without examining all of the evidence? If you respect yourself and work HARD for your money, I would advice that you stay off of ebay!
I bought an iPhone from eBay for my wife a couple of months ago from an eBay seller based in the UK.
After paying up, he sent an e-mail to me the next day saying his girlfriend dropped the phone in the snow (it was in February) and it broke, so he refunded me in full.
9 days later PayPal wrote to me saying he had no money in his account (he had no credit card backup) so took the money back. It was about £475.
I contacted the seller, who apologised, and put through a refund again. I was suspicious, but couldn't push to eBay as the "refund" was in the system again. Guess what, this seller was a scam artist and again he bounced the PayPal payment again. So, so far, he'd kept my money for over 18 days. He again said it was a problem and it was all eBay's fault, so again I started a complaint through eBay, knowing that eBay won't get involved for 10 days, and I knew he would bounce the payment again after 9 days!
So, what to do? You can't e-mail eBay. So, instead I tweeted a message to both eBay and @AskPayPal, complaining about the situation and that their customer service was awful. I did this on Friday evening at about 7pm.
At 11pm, I received an e-mail from "Frank" at PayPal telling me that they had refunded me in full, and would tell eBay to close the claim.
I looked on eBay the next day, and the claim had been closed, and the dodgy seller was no longer an eBay member.
So, if you get stuck, use Twitter. You won't regret it!
I have been with e-bay since it started trading. I recently sold an item that the buyer did not fancy keeping I was unable to put my side of events and terrible customer service from the Philippines meant that my messages were incorrectly answered or ignored. E-bay have now instructed a recovery agency to collect the non existent debt. USE e-bay AT YOUR PERIL

Not so good if you are a seller, too heavily weighted to the buyer
Needed to make some extra money so decided to sell a few things that I did not need clothes etc. I got fed up in the end as I was selling things but a lot of the buyers bid and then never pay or even have the decency to contact you. Ebay just tell you to open a non payment dispute after 4 days and the buyers gets a strike but you cannot see the strike nor can you leave a negative and yet buyers are allowed to leave you a negative even though they haven't paid. Ebay do nothing about these people. I know its not ebay fault if they do not pay but ebay should do more about them. Allow sellers to leave negs for those who do not pay to warn other sellers. There is nothing on a buyers feedback to warn sellers. You speak to customer services and they just spout a load of rubbish and its like talking to a Robot. Ebay basically are not interested as long as they get their fees which are high especially when you have to pay to list then pay again when you have sold it and then you have to pay paypal and by the time you have finished you have made about 50p profit (if you are lucky) Its ok for the big business's who are selling hundreds a day but it no good for the small seller. I now go to a car boot sale and have made far more money from it than I ever did on ebay. Bigger items I sell on Gumtree & Preloved. So unless you are a big business and can sell high value items, then I would avoid ebay and look elsewhere to sell your items.
We are a premium UK seller on Ebay since 2009 & our Co established since 1991.
We understand that customer service is paramount, especially during the current economic climate.
However, Ebay simply do not care about their customers !!
During March 13 our staff learned that our entire shop & items had been deleted.
It took Ebay several days to resolve the technical issues, to finally re-list all our items with different product references & to our astonishment we had lost ALL our watchers built up since 2009.
NO EXPLANATION, NO APOLOGY & MORE IMPORTANTLY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE......
We requested on no less that seven (7) occasions, for a senior account manager to call to discuss our account & several weeks later, we are still waiting.
Disgraceful...
EBAY A PIECE OF ADVICE - 'PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH' or you will lose customers & loyalty.
Why have a .co.uk website with premium UK number just to be put through to an off shore call centre where English is there 2nd language and be put on hold for 20minutes just to be told they cannot help!
Worst customer service ever!!
I have never bought from eBay. I was hoping to buy a BMW x5. Next day I received an email from Danielle moe who said to me she is selling an x5 and has an account with eBay. But her advert was on auto trader and gumtree. So she assured me that I will receive my item in next 48hours which is today. I made a payment to a bank via chaps and got an email from eBay saying they have received the payment. I am still waiting for my x5 to come which I very much doubt will come. I have emailed customer support so many times where my car is and they don't reply back to you plus they don't have a phone number that they can help us with so it's all a scam I have lost out on a lot of money people don't ever buy from eBay again what ebay is doing they are stealing from their own customers 1 by 1 DO NOT BUY FROM EBAY AGAIN
I have been with Ebay for years and learned to put up with their odd little annoyances because in the main, I rather like it, but they have finally gone too far.
I logged on today to find the landing page suddenly filled with large images of - as far as I can gather - things I 'might like' based on past searches. Not just the usual strip at the side of the page, but totally filling it. I found it hugely intrusive - it really is in your face - and totally unhelpful. I don't actually need any help. I know what I want and am perfectly capable of searching for it. I am neither an idiot nor a six-year-old child.
I searched for some way of switching the 'feature' off, but there is none. Invited to 'edit' these 'suggestions', I typed in words to the effect that I wished it to go away. I was told that no suggestions matching my request had been found and the pictures disappeared. Peace at last! But when I returned to ebay later on I was met with the same bleeping thing all over again.
I will now spend my afternoon off searching for a reasonable alternative to ebay. If this rubbish doesn't disappear within a week I will close my account for good. I've rated them two stars just for this experience (normally I'd give them a 4). I don't believe there is any malicious intent, just a bad, mad and ill-considered idea.
I sold a Gibson Les Paul guitar on eBay from Hawaii via standard post. I let the buyer know the shipping was going to take 3-6 weeks. The buyer complained saying that something was wrong and that I did not a actually send an Item. Then the buyer escalated the case. eBay instantly refunded the buyer in full an expected me to pay for it. I have called and explained my situation 10 + times to many people and specialists that eBay has directed me to. Finally they said I should fax them proof that I sent the item (as if the tracking # wasn't enough) I called the shipping company I used to send the guitar, they sent a fax to eBay of my receipt. 5 Days later I called again, eBay never got it. I double checked the fax # with them and it was correct. eBay told me to fax it again and assured me they will be looking out for it. In the mean time eBay has frozen my account and I'm getting threatening eBay messages saying if I don't pay they will report my account to collection agencies. And of course, the buyer got a free Gibson Les Paul guitar.
- So the buyer complained a little and eBay refunded him without thinking yet I(as the seller) have to pull teeth to get anything done.
-I am still trying to resolve this issue... I will never sell on eBay again.
I rarely sell anything on E bay now due to the rising insertion fees.. Listed 7 items last month and the invoice came to nearly £10 pounds and that was using the very basic of listings. Its hard to make a good profit with what you sell on E bay these days once you take away the insertion fees and the cost of P+P.
Also I do not like the way if someone claims they have not received there item and the case does not end in your favor which 90% of the time will happen even if you do have proof of postage it does not seem to matter to E bay you end up having to give a full refund from your own pocket !
After this happening to me x2 and eBay refusing point blank to help on both occasions, I no longer sell on E bay only use it to buy things.

OPEN CASES AGAINST SELLERS WHEN YOU DONT WANT THEM TO.
THEN WON'T LET YOU OPEN A CASE WHEN YOU DO WANT TO.
CS CHAT OPERATORS JUST SCRIPT RECITING DRONES.
I bought an item & I didn't get the item. somehow I missed 45 days not having the item. now the seller ripped me off. Great eBay
This seller is responsible for a very long post! It is extremely impolite. He managed to make a mistake in the address of all items in a package. He made a mistake in my name, made mistake in postal code (442549 for a place 422544, how might make such a mistake?). As a result, the parcel has gone in a completely different city and its fate is unknown. Not highly recommend to contact this seller! First encounter with the seller for many years of experience!

The worst experience I've ever had!!!
Listed an item, that did sell, but I was informed the bidder didn't actually made an offer (someone did it for him/her).
Now I'm trying to list it again to sell it (again), but have no listing allowance!!!
There will be all kind of shit happening in your way of selling or buying an item. Find a different selling site!!!
here is how Ebay and PayPal...owned by Ebay nail a seller. Step 1: Ebay charges you to place the ad for item you want to sell..not too much unles you really want an attractive and compelling ad. Step 2. Ebay, when item sells, takes a cut of the sale price. Step 2A. Ebay basically has rigged ad so that the buyer MUST use Patpal, an Ebay subsidiary. Step 3. PayPal then holds your ..repeat YOUR...money from the sale for up to 21 days, regardless of your Ebay feedback score..in their bank account, making interest for them. Step 4. Paypal finally releases your money to you BUT first takes their cut for handling the transaction..
Absolute thieves - working in conjunction with PayPal these scammers make sh*t up as they go along and the net result is your money disappears!
This is how bad things can get when a monopoly operates, unchallenged, doing exactly what they like with no governing body to answer to.

they charge 10 pour cent on final value. if you then have to refund part of the payment there is no allowance for adjustment . you still get charged on the first amount. basic you get charged on money you have not earned. and if phone them to raison with them. they tell you its the computer??????????????????
even in the tax office you have readjustments . not with e bay
I am a account holder with them since 2004 and I have 100 pour cent feed back. no difference to them . they obviously have no idea how to be fair with their costumer. I am now disgusted with them and therefore closing my account. try Amazon they are offering better deals then e bay in many products , they are much faster at dealing with issues and they speak an English I can understand. tried reasoning with them for over an hour and got no where so be it and bye.

i’ve been an ebay member for over 7+ years. i have been loyal and almost always think of ebay as a means to buy something... i go to ebay.com whenever i need to buy something.
there are a lot of benefits for ebay BUYERS. there are great deals, a variety of products, and since it competitive the prices are very good. paypal has assured safety and satisfaction. so you do not have to worry about being scammed or losing money if you shop SMART. buy from legit sellers according to their history and feedback. another great benefit are "ebay bucks"; an award system that awards buyers a small percentage of dividend whenever someone buys something that can be accumulated and saved for future purchases. even though the percentage is extremely small, it is still some incentive to keep shopping.
HOWEVER.
there is a HUGE disadvantage for sellers. HUGE.
i am mostly a ebay buyer so i have not noticed, but sellers are basically robbed and oppressed by ebay. there are no longer listing fees if you put up less than a couple hundred listings... however, ebay takes something called a "final value fee" in laymen’s terms, ebay will take about 10% of whatever you sell your items for. then paypal takes another percentage of that money. so whatever you sell, you are only getting about 85% and that does not include the seller’s cost to ship the item.
another disadvantage is buyers can leave negative feedback and sellers cannot. a buyer can leave an ambiguous negative feedback like "F U" and ebay will refuse to take it off. even though it is offensive and has nothing to do with the transaction.
personal story: a buyer bought an item for me for a great deal. an item in NEW condition for half of what it is in retail. the buyer sent payment 6 days later. and i was busy at that time so i messaged the buyer that i wouldn’t be able to ship right away... the buyer ignored my messaged and filed for a refund. ebay awarded the buyer the refund AND the buyer got the item that i shipped. after sending 10+ messages to ebay showing them proof of tracking number. they gave me back the money. (it felt dirty because since the buyer got a great deal, i was the one who lost money in the end but i was fighting for that money even still)
then the buyer left me negative feedback with an ambiguous message. even after the buyer got the item and a great deal; i see no reason for a negative feedback other than shipping time. so i spent 2+ hours talking to ebay customer service who refused to remove the feedback. even though it had nothing to do with the transaction and it was offensive.
i suspect customer service is practiced outside of the states and they have NO IDEA on the culture in the STATES so they do not find things offensive the same way as i do. this is not their fault, but ebay’s fault for employing people that cannot understand and are insensitive.
it clearly states out of the many guidelines on their site that offensive and irrelevant feedback will be removed, but customer service failed to see that it was offensive.
in the end i was left with irrelevant feedback. lost money because the buyer bidded and got a great deal. and ebay took 10% of the final value and refused to listen to help me out. i have had 100% feedback for 7 years and that was tainted by a 3 month account that attempted to steal my money and take the item.
i understand ebay is always changing and trying to evolve. but the recent actions on the customer service department has made me upset and I will definitely do less business.. if at all with ebay in the future.
"hell of a way to end a partnership."

I raised concerns about an ebay buyer to the Ebay team. They ignored me many times.
I have bought and sold on Ebay. The selling I have found a nightmare.
This buyer claimed they did not receive my product after I raised concerns about the buyer.
I have not received any payment from 2 buyers as of yet and this was at least 1 + ago. I have been trying to get answers from Ebay since and failed. The customer service team did not want to know, ignore my emails and ignored my concerns via telephone conversation.
There is no protection for sellers and no advice or help given when you come across an un trustworthy buyer. This then gives out the wrong message to buyers.
Totally unacceptable and disgraceful.

I love buying on Ebay, But selling is not so fun.
The charges for selling are just a bit to steep now days. But all in all its a good website
The 2013 Royal mail price rises will all but kill E bay off for small sellers. Also the way E bay works out its DSR ratings for sellers postage and packing is causing many small sellers to get banned.Taking also the fact that a seller cannot leave negative feedback for a pain of a buyer, the site has lost its shine especially for private sellers.Big companies are showing items in stock but when you purchase from them you are having to claim your money back through the e bay resolution centre because they have none in stock at all. With the listing fees, paypal fees, final value fees and now increased postage fees you are better off selling your stuff on a car boot sale as there is nothing left for you by the time youve paid that lot. There is still the odd bargain but you have to trawl through pages and pages of Buy it nows from the big wholesale sellers and its barely worth the trouble looking nowadays
I've had many problems with fake & fraudulent buyers, items that haven't arrived and items that have been damaged and Ebay has always been fair and all my problems have been sorted. The Buyer protection is great and you can bid with confidence.
I've used Ebay for years and always thought with a bit of common sense it's a safe environment for people to trade. Buyer protection via Paypal is good and fairly simple if lengthy to use. So, my complaint? I discovered a seller shill bidding, that is bidding on their own auctions with a fake account to artificially increase prices. It wasn't particularly well done as the same account bid on 5 different auctions, all with the same seller and in each case bid the genuine buyer up to their maximum by retracting any bid that was higher and thus leaving the genuine bidder at their top price. 14 retractions spread over those 5 auctions was pretty conclusive and looking into previous completed auctions revealed a clear history of shill bidding. Ebay at first reassured me that the auction had been cancelled. 12 hours later it was still running and when I queried it, they basically told me, I wasn't the highest bidder any more so don't worry.....er? but what about the poor sod who was the highest bidder pushed from £10 to £30 or the other auction who had pushed one bidder from £22 to £71!!!!. Ebay clearly don't care what sellers are doing to push up their price because at the end of the day they take a fee based on the final selling price! Having used Ebay for years, I am stunned at their attitude. All I can say is Ebay is a great place to buy just about anything and there are some really great sellers on there, but, you have to check every auction....if you're outbid then suddenly find yourself the highest bidder again, before you congratulate yourself on your luck, check the bid retraction section on the bidding page, you just might be being taken for a ride and Ebay won't do a damned thing......
Bought many a times from Ebay and what I can say is at times it can be a fifty fifty chance. There's Ebayers that are decent and honest but there's dishonest ones to.
Recently, bought a Republic of Ireland football 11/12 top size M from an shop on Ebay called Lovell Rugby. Got it for £12 (£3 delivery). The item was as described, in great
condition and super fast delivery. Decent packaging to.The top is the offical replica top the same as the shops do (e.g. Sportdirect.com). Would deafnitly recommend this Ebay shop to a friend. Top was a Bargin!
Been using ebay for many years now. Haven't had any problems at all. The products are generally very well priced and the service has always been good from the sellers I have encountered. Would recommend.
I like ebay and generally have no problems. Have bought and sold and all pretty easy.
One issue - I purchased an item which could not be paid for until the seller gave me postage details. Seller never replied to anything but I could not get ebay to remove the item that I had "not paid for". Eventually it just fell off after time. But communication with ebay directly could be a lot better.
I use ebay all of the time to buy/sell stuff, and I've had very little problems. I've had a couple of issues with buyers not paying for an item they've won, but if this happens, you report them to ebay and if they don't pay up in 3 days, ebay give you the sellers fees and cost of advertising back to you. You just have to be careful about who you are buying from by checking their feedback.
A lot of people love Ebay and i don't Blame them, it's got everything on Ebay, The trouble is we have Dishonest people who abuse the ''Buyer-protection'' paypal is to blame too they are Terrible at protecting the Sellers.they will limit you're account forever and can't be disputed if a dishonest Buyer complains about a very expensive item for example $1000 laptop you're in limbo and they state it's different if not empty Box..... PLEASE REMOVE YOU'RE FUNDS STRAIGHT AWAY BEFORE PAYPAL DOES!!.
Ebay kept Holding my funds at first what a nightmare never again
If you're a small seller and selling expensive items DON'T, start off with $5 items if not smaller, because it's risky to many dodgy people. and don't expect ebay support to help they are terrible same goes to paypal they need to weed out the dodgy people and look at what ebay use to be,
Ebay isn't Ebay anymore it's like a retail store, my opinion 89% of the Goods brought from ebay is New not second hand now all stock photos, i remember when people put loft and attic items on auction you don't hardly see that anymore it's a different place, and what makes me angry they shove a women in the front of the ebay home page with her arms crossed saying ''you're in safe hands when you shop on ebay'' and that's when the dishonest Buyers abuse the system ebay protects the buyers not the sellers,
I have been a buyer and a seller on Ebay for many years. I always felt safe using the site as there is Ebay Buyer Protection and I felt Ebay would sort out any problem that might arise. In November 2012, however, I ordered a drill through Ebay. When the item arrived, it was not the one advertised and I contacted the seller. He agreed that it was sent in error and asked me to return it. It cost me £25 to return and from then on I heard nothing from the seller. I contacted Ebay and went through the procedures required. Ebay subsequently refunded my original purchase price but refused to do anything about the cost of returning the item. The Customer services Dept did not really listen to the case and seemed to think I had returned the item for a reason such as "it was the wrong colour" instead of a fraud by the seller. Accordingly, I now have no drill and am out of pocket by £25 as Ebay say is not their policy to cover such items as return costs. Where is the Buyer protection in that. NOT GOOD ENOUGH EBAY!!
for buyers it is very difficult to get your money back and let you get scammed . for sellers there is no protraction or support at all + very very very high fees +when you cancel any transaction i always get back the final fees 0.01 less, for eg if the final fees is £2.00 when the transaction is canceled i get back £1.99 and this happened so many time imagine if it is happened with other hundreds or thousands other seller imagine how much money Ebay makes.
I have been using ebay for some time and up to now was happy with the service provided.
But sellers fee are ridiculously high and I will most likely not use ebay for selling anymore.
A good site and some good deals but if you are selling they charge silly fees and then charge you more fees for receiving money on PayPal. Silly.
